Things you should know about me:
1. I recently graduated from university and am now living in London, trying to make my way in the book publishing industry. I do not want to be an editor, which makes me quite a novelty in publishing.
2. I studied Japanese at said university, and this LJ was started as the Diary of my Year in Japan. That explains the username.
3. I left a significant portion of my heart in Tokyo, which is a little embarrassing given that I claim to hate the place. These days I try to keep my Japanese up and hope that the bizarre twists and turns of life will take me back there one day.
4. I call myself Murasaki (even though it is not the name that was sewn into my PE kit at school) because I am fond of purple.
5. My username comes from a haiku by Shohaku:
katarau mo
hakana no tomo ya
tabi no sora
'Even talking
A fleeting friendship -
Travellers' skies.'
6. I am an unusual Japanologist, in that I don't know the first thing about anime, manga, J-pop, or big-eyed girls with animal ears, and the Japan in which I am most interested is at least 200 years old. If anybody wants to have a discussion about urban society in the 17th-18th century, the works of Hiraga Gennai, or Bean Man in his various incarnations, I'd be happy to oblige - just don't talk to me about Harajuku or cosplay or whatever it is the cool kids are into these days.
7. I have just been updating this list, and realised that all of these Things (apart from the first one) involve Japan in one way or another. This saddens me. I am not yet ready to say goodbye to it.
